Balancing work, life, and fitness can seem impossible with so much competing for our time and energy. If we’re spending 8 to 12 hours at work for most of the week with 2 days “off” dedicated to family, errands, and possibly more work - where will fitness fit??
Our guest today is Art Trapotsis and he will show us how he not only achieves this balance in his own life did but how he also implemented balanced work, life, and fitness values in his company as a CEO of a medical device company in Massachusetts. Art is also the founder, and president of Keep It Tight Athletics, a Boston-based cycling club, and the book author of The Everyday Athlete.
You can engage with us by leaving feedback on this podcast and by connecting to our LinkedIn People and Leadership page. Stay updated and connect with Business Leaders and Industry Experts by giving us a follow there. You can also connect with Julie and Aura directly.
A glimpse of what you can learn:
Learn the benefits of family, work, and fitness balance including the neuropsychology of how physical activity boosts our mental activity resulting in outcomes like happiness, energy, assimilating learning, and more.
Dispel the myth of having separate buckets for family, work, and fitness - Fitness is very interconnected with everything else that we do in life and we can't think of it as a separate silo that you can put on hiatus for a few weeks or a few months, because will affect the other pieces.
Hear about the ripple effect throughout the rest of your life by getting a walk at lunch, getting some fresh air, and going a walk during lunch break.
Find out how to ensure your workforce participates organizational fitness and wellness programs.
Discover the biggest misconceptions and mistakes of people - even the master athletes.
Determine where you are today and how you can take a small step toward balancing family, work, and fitness.
In this episode:
Art shared how he was able to integrate family, work, and business. Learn how a busy CEO of a Manufacturing company, a dedicated family man, and a passionate athlete
integrated these three areas of life and implemented them into his company for the benefit of his workforce.
Aura shared her concept of family, work, and fitness. Find out how she fits socializing with friends and exercising into her working schedule.
Art shared how his company embraces fitness from an organizational standpoint not just from a personal standpoint.
Art shared how his wellness in his company works. If you want to do the same for your organization, take note!
The most surprising thing for Art, in his research for the book, is that literally everyone struggles with it. It doesn't matter if you're a national champion, everyone struggles with it. There's no one solution. You have to find your own unique motivation to get going on this path.
Julie shared her knowledge and expertise about motivation relating to having the motivation to start exercising and being fit.

Welcome to the launch episode of “People and Leadership, The Other P & L”. We started our journey hosting live in Clubhouse at the dawn of the pandemic just to bring people together during an uncertain and isolating time. Now we’ve graduated to a fully booked podcast to discuss all things People and Leadership with thought leaders from around the world and from every aspect of the business. We’re glad you’re here!
You can engage with us by leaving feedback on this podcast and by connecting to our LinkedIn People and Leadership page. Stay updated and connect with Business Leaders and Industry Experts by giving us a follow there. You can also connect with Julie and Aura directly.
A glimpse of what to expect from the “People and Leadership, The Other P&L” Podcast:
- Julie Quinne will discuss challenges and solutions from her background as a leadership strategist, executive coach, and consultant as well as insights from her published work on perseverance and purpose and her frameworks for leadership and productivity.
- Aura will bring her background as an HR, people, and culture leader and her passion for thought leadership in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- We will include live recorded sessions from the early Clubhouse days and we have a robust pipeline of thought leaders we’ll be hearing from in the coming months.
- Topics we have lined up include change leadership, data analytics, mental health, diversity, and more!
In this Episode:
Our WHY: Isolation was a major concern at the start of the pandemic and Aura Huot had a clear sense of how that isolation would be a negative impact on mental health in our workplaces. We wanted to open up a platform for people to come to be themselves, ask questions, share ideas related to the workplace, and to specifically discuss People and Leadership.
This was at the dawn of the Pandemic: Together we were able to create this place where the people that we've attracted to these conversations are so passionate about what they do and so concerned about the impact of work on people's lives.
The working professionals and leaders we attracted: Our guests are moved to contribute to the health of their organizations in all different ways. We've had people talk about finance and operations and marketing and HR and mental health, and - no matter their topic - it's been about helping people succeed and feel belonging and connection in their work and in their life.
Hear Julie and Aura’s inspiring stories; Julie’s experience as a grocery clerk in her teens opened her mind to the importance of change leadership. She took up Interpersonal Communication in College which led her (kicking and screaming) to an HR executive career. Aura is the head and heart behind People and Leadership - giving people a platform to come to be themselves, ask questions, and share ideas at a time when isolation was impacting mental health and well-being in our lives due to the pandemic.
Julie on becoming a Leadership Strategist, a Consultant, and a Coach: “I reached a critical point in my career where I asked myself, ‘Julie, what do you truly want from your work and from your life? And what is it going to take to get that?’ Ironically, that type of visioning and strategy is what I've done for everybody else all of these years. And it hadn't occurred to me to use the very frameworks that I used for my clients, for myself. And once I did that, I was able to create what I do now and have been doing for the past several years, which is being a leadership strategist, a consultant, a coach, and teaching people how to do what I do.
